George Rhoda Testimony

When I sang for the Tucson Christian Men’s Chorus we always started our concerts with a song titled ”Rise Up Oh Men of God”. That song started to haunt me. When I taught Sunday school, I always stressed being a witness in work and action. I thought; “are you practicing what you had preached and sang for years?”

It was time to see how my wife and I could volunteer in working in the harvest field. We wanted to volunteer in reaching out to a hurting world with the love of Jesus and bringing the gospel to those who need it so badly. Seeking God’s guidance in prayer, we ended up taking the training to be counselors at the CPC. They taught about Presenting the gospel, abortion, adoption, STD’s, how to talk about abstinence, church referrals, medical referrals, etc. The training stressed and stressed for us to lean on the Holy Spirit.

Lonnie was my trainer. I observed Lonnie with a few clients, he said; “the next guy that comes in will be yours.” My very first client was ready for harvest and the Lord opened his heart to the gospel and he asked to receive Jesus. He married the girl and is going to church with his new bride. The Lord has since used me to pray with three more men to receive Jesus and the wonderful gift of Eternal Life. I have talked to a dozen more men, who had asked Jesus to be their Savior when they were younger. They renewed their relationships with Jesus. I know of two who have since married.

I have been volunteering now for three years at the Central Center. The joy of seeing the Lord work in young men’s lives has lifted me to a new awareness of the power of God equipping with His Holy Spirit those who are the means of sharing the Good News and the excitement of a young man when he sees the blessings of God in giving him a baby to care for and protect.

If I needed any assurance that I was where the Lord wanted me I couldn’t ask for more.

As I sang for years with the men’s chorus I still think the Lord wants men to rise up and mentor these young dads to be. Help them in their struggles in life. Not only do we strive to speak with each man about God, but we also take time to help them learn about responsibility and why they should treasure, honor and respect women. This is a great program.
