Volunteer Profile

Volunteer Cynthia Finds Life After Abortion

Often God uses the most reluctant volunteers to accomplish His greatest purpose. But sometimes His plan is not readily evident. This is certainly true for Cynthia. She returned to Tucson against her wishes after being diagnosed with health problems and medically discharged from the U.S. Army.

While attending her church, she heard an announcement to attend training for volunteer work with the Crisis Pregnancy Centers. Given the fact that she had already had six past abortions, she wasn’t interested. Repeatedly, she turned down requests to participate for the training. Finally, she told God He would have to find a way to scholarship her training fees if He wanted her to participate. He did.

The day the training began, Cynthia found her eyes swelling shut. The friend who had paid for her training called to tell her she would be picking Cynthia up. At the training, someone volunteered to take notes for Cynthia since her eyes were swollen shut. Like the apostle Paul, Cynthia was “blind” for three days. But on the third day, her eyes were opened… and she was heartbroken at what she saw.

On that day, the training featured the video, “A Doctor Explains Abortion.” For the first time, Cynthia realized that six of her babies had died during her abortions. It broke her heart to realize the incredible loss she had experienced due to abortion and she knew exactly why God had brought her to the training.

As a result of her personal experience with abortion, Cynthia felt an instant connection with the PACE (Post Abortion Counseling & Education) ministry. Her commitment has even extended to her opportunity to speak via video at a Share-in-a-Life banquet. Cynthia shared to a packed audience, how she was the mother of five living children and because of her abortions, six other babies died.

When asked why, five years later, she continues to volunteer in the PACE ministry, Cynthia notes that the training allowed her to see herself through God’s eyes. She continues to volunteer because she knows that abortion isn’t the unpardonable sin that so many Christians think it is. She has experienced the reality that God makes all things new through His grace and wants other women to feel this same freedom.

Today, Cynthia co-facilitates a weekly post-abortion ministry at one of our centers. She also counsels weekly and facilitates other PACE groups for the Crisis Pregnancy Centers as her time allows.

Like the apostle Paul, Cynthia knows she can boast only in the Lord Jesus Christ and His ability to redeem life. She is grateful for the opportunity she has to share His grace and love with women needing healing from the pain of abortion.
