Volunteer Profile

“Commitment” is Her Middle Name!

The word commitment is best used in describing the volunteers at the Crisis Pregnancy Centers. But it is an especially appropriate word to use when speaking of Judy Hawkins. For more than 13 years, she has been a faithful volunteer in the pro-life ministry.

Her dedication began when she and her husband were living in Santa Rosa, California. Judy recalls attending a women’s retreat sponsored by her church. While there, she heard a director from a local pregnancy counseling center speaking about saving lives as well as educating young women. This was a message Judy resonated with.

“At the time, I had two teenaged sons and was working with the church youth group,” she recalls. “I knew firsthand the need for God’s message of purity to be taught to teens.”

Judy decided to put her skills as an executive secretary to use at the center. She became the volunteer receptionist and administrative assistant, lending her organizational and communication skills to the ministry.

When her husband retired and they moved to Tucson, she knew her commitment to the pro-life cause had not retired! She sought out the Crisis Pregnancy Centers to find out how to volunteer. Today, Judy serves as a volunteer peer counselor at one of our centers.

Like most of our volunteers, Judy is confident in God’s ability to take the seeds we plant and bring them to fruition – all in His own time. “I always present adoption as an alternative to every client who tests positive for a pregnancy,” explains Judy. “Usually, there is little interest.

“But in one case, I was working with a client in an abusive marriage,” Judy continues. “She had separated from her husband and called me back after our first visit. She wanted to know more about placing this child for adoption and asked for an appointment with an agency.”

Judy uses this as just one example of how God uses her efforts – and those of other volunteers – to bring about His purpose in the lives of those she ministers to. And she credits the training received at the Crisis Pregnancy Centers as one of the primary reasons volunteers like her are able to be so effective in their service.

“It is excellent training,” reinforces Judy. “A ministry like this truly cannot happen without God’s provision and guidance. Follow through on the training. He will guide and provide through it as you minister here at the Crisis Pregnancy Centers.”

Thank you! It is because of friends like you supporting the ministry of the Crisis Pregnancy Centers that volunteers like Judy are able to touch the lives of those we serve!
