Volunteer Profile

What do you say to someone who discovers his or her parent wanted to abort them? Just ask Priscilla who volunteers weekly at the Crisis Pregnancy Center’s Eastside location. Priscilla’s life began as a crisis pregnancy. In fact, as she explains it, “I was my mother’s second crisis pregnancy.

“My parent’s first child was a surprise which caused them to make wedding plans earlier than they had planned. It was only after my parents’ deaths that I came across some old letters. In them, I discovered that I was an unplanned child and my father had urged my mother to abort me.”

This revelation triggered a new, deeper understanding of the child she had lost as a result of her own abortion while in college. Although Priscilla had since found the Lord and attended a post-abortive Bible study group years ago, she was immediately hesitant when a friend at church asked her to volunteer at the Crisis Pregnancy Centers.

“I had already begun making baby quilts for the Crisis Pregnancy Centers,” recalls Priscilla, “but I was not confident enough to volunteer directly at one of the centers.”

But God had other plans and Priscilla’s friend kept asking, even volunteering to drive her to the training. At that point, Priscilla knew God was speaking to her to step out and make a difference based on her personal experience.

In the two years Priscilla has been volunteering at the Crisis Pregnancy Centers, she has seen many blessings in her own life. “I now have the confidence to share the Gospel,” Priscilla marvels. “God has brought the passage in II Timothy 1:7-8 to life… ‘For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline. So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord…’

“When I’m working as a counselor, I know I’m giving the advice and wisdom I never received when I had my abortion,” she continues. “There is such joy in being able to tell a woman, ‘If you want to have this baby, there is a way to do so.’”

Priscilla has even found the courage to start an aspect of ministry to further help post-abortive women after they complete our Post Abortive Counseling and Education (PACE) class. PAM’S CLUB stands for Post Abortive Mothers Sharing, Caring, and Loving Unborn Babies. The post-abortive women who share friendship, support, and healing can make a quilt square in memory of their unborn children.

In drawing from her personal experience with abortion, Priscilla is able to offer help and healing to many young women at the Crisis Pregnancy Centers. “My work with the PACE class and the Crisis Pregnancy Centers has helped me refocus on my walk with the Lord and His purpose for my life,” she states.
